Education

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with K-12 teacher licensure from UNC Wilmington in May of 2013. My cumulative GPA was 3.95. I graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors. As an undergraduate, I placed on the Dean's List from the Fall of 2009 to the Spring of 2013. I was also a recipient of the Chancellor's Achievement Award from the Spring of 2010 through the Spring of 2013. I was a member of Sigma Delta Pi National Hispanic Honor Society as well as Sigma Alpha Lambda National Honor Society. I received a Master of Arts in Spanish from UNC Wilmington in May of 2014. I was given the unique opportunity to begin my graduate coursework during my senior year of my undergraduate studies, allowing me to complete my master's in one school year. My cumulative GPA was 3.87.

Experience

I am currently a middle and high school Spanish teacher at a school in Adams County. Prior to moving to Colorado, I taught for 6 years in Wake County Public School System, the largest school district in North Carolina. At my high school in North Carolina, I served as the World Language Department chair and a co-advisor of National Spanish Honor Society. I currently teach middle school Spanish through AP Spanish, and in addition to strengthening vocabulary and grammar skills, I have a great understanding of Spanish as well as Latin American literature. I developed a love for teaching and working with students while volunteering as an English tutor to elementary students and a conversation partner for college students while I studied abroad in Santander, Spain for a semester during my junior year of college. I had loved Spanish since I began taking classes in high school (levels 1- AP), but studying abroad allowed me hone my skills as a speaker and further understand the culture of Spain as well as Hispanic culture in general. I also am qualified to work with adult learners. As a graduate teaching assistant, I co-taught an intermediate Spanish course at UNC Wilmington. I also was the sole instructor for an introductory Spanish course the following semester. I worked as a session leader in the Spanish Conversation Center at UNC Wilmington as well, were I led 30 minute meetings in small groups (1-5 students) of Spanish-only speaking practice reinforcing grammatical concepts and vocabulary covered in class as well as allowing the students apply the language to their own lives and discuss topics that were important to them.

Hobbies

Outside of teaching and sharing my love of the Spanish language with everyone who wants to learn it, I enjoy reading, traveling, horseback riding, and watching Netflix! My favorite books range from classic Spanish Literature, such as Don Quixote, to modern young adult novels like The Hunger Games series. My travel goals include visiting all the countries in the Spanish-Speaking world (I have 19 more to go!) and visiting Harry Potter World at Universal Studios in Orlando! I spend much of my free time with my friends enjoying the wonderful weather we have here in Colorado. I am full of "fun facts" as I am an avid documentary watcher and attendee of trivia nights. Most importantly, whether working or not, I love to have fun and help people learn, so I thoroughly enjoy combining the two by playing games and communicating through engaging activities. ***Please note that I am available for evening or weekend tutoring only at this point in time due to my responsibilities serving my school.
